The joint DMV and GAMM annual meeting 2016 will be hosted by the Technische Universität Braunschweig. The TU‘s academic community comprises some 17,192 students and 3,508 staff members, its academic focus is on engineering and natural sciences, closely linked with humanities, economics, social sciences and education. The name Carolo-Wilhelmina stems from the founding fathers of the Technische Universität Braunschweig, the dukes Carl and Wilhelm of Braunschweig-Lüneburg. In 1745, Duke Carl founded the Collegium Carolinum, laying the foundations for the first technical university in Germany. Among the early students was mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauß.
Braunschweig unites tradition and high technology, outstanding infrastructure and an excellent location at the heart of northern Europe. According to a current EU study, Braunschweig is the most research intensive region in Europe, boasting the highest density of scientists. The city is home to three universities. Intensive research is undertaken at 27 renowned institutions and 250 companies in the high-tech sector. Its spectrum ranges from biotechnology via financing all the way to transportation technology. First mentioned in records in 1031, Braunschweig continued to evolve, from the 12th century on strongly influenced by the House of Guelf and the Hanseatic tradition. Traveling
Braunschweig is the largest city between Berlin and Hannover and can easily be reached by car, train, coach or from the nearest airport.
Within the city, the busses and trams of the public transport system provide excellent connections to the various sites of Technische Universität Braunschweig.
The TU’s Main Campus is in walking distance from the city centre. Its Historic Main Building, lecture halls, administration building and University Library are clustered around Pockelsstraße.
