After 100 years of GAMM the organizers of the Annual Meeting GAMM100 want to particularly address the issue of sustainability. Without any doubt this is mandatory in present times and will be on the agenda of the next 100 years to come.
Within the established frame of the meeting, the organizers have implemented several measures in this respect and like to ask the participants to join them in the effort.
* The three Keynote Lecturers from overseas will not travel to Dresden but will deliver their presentation online to the screen of the auditorium. This will save travel time and resources. As a compensation, and a new feature of a GAMM Annual Meeting, special online slots will be organized for discussions of participants with the remote keynote lecturers.
* Compensation
For each participant a tree will be planted via an established local organization to at least partly compensate for the ecological footprint of the conference.
* Conference documents
By default, participants will receive all conference documents (abstracts, programme, etc., only in electronic form via the conference app. The app provides convenient features to organize the activities of participants before, during and after the event. Participants still desiring to receive the conference documents on paper may select the “paper option” upon registration. The service is not related to any additional fee but should be used with restraint.
* Conference bags, writing pads, pens, etc. will not be distributed at the conference. Participants are supposed to employ their own usual office material at hand.
* Catering
Catering during coffee breaks and Welcome Reception will particularly focus on local and regional goods. It is desired to reduce the need of resources whenever possible, e.g., by avoiding one-way products.
* Sustainability Award
Science, even in mathematics and mechanics, can contribute a lot to saving of resources and sustainability. To highlight and support such activities the organizers have established Sustainability Award that will be delivered to contributions addressing the issue.
*Sustainability Speakers‘ Corner
The Sustainability Speaker’s Corner aims to raise awareness and stimulate discussion on sustainability in the GAMM community, universities, education and research. The event will include informative talks and a forum to facilitate the exchange of ideas, as well as a poster exhibition, and a digital sustainability bulletin board.
* Travel in Dresden
Numerous trams, buses and public bikes are at the disposal of the participants, so that an individual car might not be needed. An overview of the ticket options as well as network maps can be found at https://www.dvb.de/en-gb/tickets-en/ticket-overview.
* Travel to Dresden
If possible, participants could travel to Dresden by train, or bus, or bike 😉 , …, instead of plane or car to reduce the individual footprint. For participants with a short travel distance the so-called Deutschlandticket, which includes the local trams and buses as well, might be an option.
